The house sits in 500 acres of parkland, and your ticket covers far more than the rooms: the maze Adrian Fisher planted from over 2,400 yews in 1988, with its way out through an underground grotto, plus the Bird of Prey Centre, the Dog Collar Museum and the Culpeper Garden, the falconry displays, the Knights' Stronghold and Squires' Courtyard playgrounds, a beach and the walking routes.
3. Nine centuries on two islands

1. You will only have ninety minutes
The Evan Evans coach days give you 1 hour 30 minutes at the castle; the castle's own ticket is sold as a visit of 3 to 5 hours. If that gap bothers you, pick the Leeds and Hever day, which gives you 3 hours, or go on your own ticket. Every tour side by side shows the hours each one leaves you.
2. The White Cliffs are the real reason you are going

3. You are bringing a dog, or coming late in the year for the castle alone
Only assistance dogs are admitted, because wildfowl roam the whole estate. From 20 November to 3 January the castle opens 10:30 to 15:00, last entry 14:30, and the building alone closes from 6 to 11 November 2026. Check the weather month by month before you pick a date.
Is a coach day from London worth it?
Yes, if Kent is the day and the castle is one stop of three. The Ultimate Explorer ticket costs £45.50 for an adult online, £11.00 more than the Explorer. For that you get six trips on the Black Swan Ferry (seasonal) or Elsie the Castle Train, and one round of adventure golf, all of which cost extra on an Explorer. With children, or across two visits, it pays its way. For one adult who wants the castle and the gardens, it does not.

- Arrive for 10:00, when the grounds open, and walk to the castle for its 10:30 opening, before the coaches arrive.
