Leeds Castle Tours Reviews
Hours, prices and access verified by the Leeds Castle Tours team — last checked 2026-09-05
Traveller feedback from the booking listings for every Leeds Castle tour,
in their own words. The praise clusters on the guides and the grounds; the criticism
clusters on two things — how short the White Cliffs stop is, and how long the walk in
from the car park feels — and both are kept here rather than tidied away.
What travellers consistently say
- The guide makes the day. Named guides come up again and again on the
coach departures, and the reviews that praise them are the ones that mention rerouting
around motorway closures and keeping the timings.
- Twenty minutes at the cliffs is twenty minutes. Several reviewers of
the Evan Evans days expected a clifftop walk and got a beach view; the ones who knew that in
advance were fine with it.
- The estate is bigger than expected. The three-star reviews of the
castle's own ticket are almost all about distance and time rather than the castle.
- The twelve-month ticket surprises people. Visitors who discover the
validity after the fact wish they had planned a second day around it.

We were torn between this and the Stonehenge and Bath day, and picked this one. Leeds Castle turned out to be far better than either of us expected, and the last owner clearly had an eye for how a house should look. Canterbury Cathedral was the surprise of the day, and the cliffs had been on our list for years.

The guide talked us through Leeds Castle and the cliffs on the coach and then let everyone go their own way. At Canterbury she walked the group into the cathedral and gave us an hour to ourselves afterwards. As a woman travelling alone I would have liked a little less assumption that I needed shepherding.

My wife and I covered a lot of Kent in nine hours and still had proper time at Leeds Castle and the cathedral. The White Cliffs stop is short — long enough for photographs, not for exploring. Megan guiding and Earl driving made the day; Earl handled some very narrow lanes without fuss.

Debra was the making of the day. She knew her material and had a knack for putting history across in a way that held everyone's attention. Thoroughly professional from start to finish.

★★★★★
The motorway was shut by an accident and Manon simply reshuffled the timings so we still saw everything. She had real detail on each stop and took photographs for people. That kind of improvising is what you are paying a guide for.

A full day, and the grounds at Leeds were the calm part of it. We walked through the gardens, stopped at a café and took the short ferry back. It is hard to credit that the place was somebody's family home for fifty years.

★★★★★
Three stops, comfortable transport and the timings kept tightly. Phil knew the history and was entertaining with it. Nothing dragged and nothing felt rushed.
Karyn T. · June 2026

I read both attractions' own websites before booking and the day still went beyond what I expected. Sheila guiding and Tony driving could not have been more helpful. Both places look good in photographs and better in person.

Amanda guiding and Soko driving looked after our group properly and squeezed everything they could out of each stop. It is a survey day rather than a deep one, and you cover a lot of ground. We had a lot of fun with it.
Brenda C. · group · April 2025
★★★★★
Of every guide our group had in London, this one knew her history best and was the most enjoyable to listen to. Tony driving was friendly and accommodating. Bring sandwiches and something to drink, and you do get to put your toes in the English Channel.

Leeds Castle was the best of it, with two small things stopping the day being a five. There was no power to the seats so the USB sockets did nothing, and no wi-fi. Twenty minutes at the White Cliffs includes the ten it takes to walk there and back.
David Y. · September 2024
★★★★☆
The historical commentary gave the day some depth and both Canterbury and the castle are worth the journey. Canterbury doubles as the lunch stop and another twenty minutes there would help. Finishing by the Naval College and coming back up the river was a fine way to end.

Worth knowing before you book: the last stop is a walk along the beach with the cliffs in view, not a visit to them. That was fine by me. Leeds Castle and Canterbury Cathedral were the reason to come and both delivered.
Aleksandra M. · September 2025
★★☆☆☆
The castle was a good stop and Canterbury was pleasant. The cliffs were the disappointment: we were a long way off and the photographs are ordinary. Twenty minutes there did not help.
Stacey H. · March 2026

Ten hours and three good sites, with a guide and driver who both knew what they were doing. It was clear enough from the shore to see France. Long day, but a full one.

There is far more at Leeds Castle than one day holds, and the pass turns out to run for a full year rather than a single visit. The rooms are kept to a high standard and there was an audio guide for the exhibition showing. I will come back at a different point in the year to see the rest.

The gardens at Leeds Castle were full of ponds, little bridges and grass to sit on, with plenty of places to spread a picnic. We did the train, the boats and the mini golf, and caught a falconry display as well. Tea and ice cream in a café finished it off.

The grounds are lovely and the 1920s restoration inside Leeds Castle is genuinely interesting. There is a great deal for children and the play areas were busy. We were not given a wristband on the way in, which caused confusion when we tried to get into the castle itself.
Maggie S. · July 2026
★★★★☆
A lovely day, but be ready for a lot of walking with small children. A shuttle back towards the exit at the end would have made it a five. Everything else was well run.
Gina F. · family · March 2026

The grounds are beautiful and easy enough to get round. Wear comfortable shoes and put a raincoat in the bag just in case. That is really all the advice you need.

So much to see, and plenty of spots to stop and eat if you bring a picnic. There is a great deal for children to get on with as well. We ran out of day before we ran out of things to do.

I found it expensive for what it is and covered everything in a couple of hours. The experiences inside felt fairly basic to me. Others clearly get much more out of it than I did.

I did this with a seven-year-old and a fourteen-year-old and thought it was well put together, even if it was not their favourite day out. Leeds Castle was the high point and the cathedral was time well spent. The boat at the end was the weak link: we stood in the sun for three quarters of an hour waiting for it.

Oz arrived on time, was easy company, and kept up a running history of the towns and the sites all day. Our two boys, sixteen and thirteen, enjoyed every part of it. Having the car to ourselves meant we set the pace.

Oz gave us a great deal of background at every site we stopped at. His knowledge of the history was extensive and he shared it well. It made for a very enjoyable day.

Christian got us to everything on our list and still left room for a cream tea. Canterbury Cathedral and the town around it were the highlight. A thoroughly good day.
Christine R. · June 2024

We were collected from the hotel at half past seven in a clean, comfortable van. Oz talked us through the areas we drove through as well as the places we stopped, and answered every stray question we had. You can tell he enjoys the sharing.

A good way to widen a trip beyond London, and Peter guiding was excellent. The sights are worth seeing. If it is a first visit, I would still put central London and Windsor ahead of them.

Understand what this is before you book: a private driver rather than a guided tour. That is the point of it, because the day bends to whatever you want. Ours was good company and knew plenty when we asked.
Daniel M. · August 2026

This is a car and a driver, not a tour, and the tickets are not included. Kamal was polite, professional and the vehicle was spotless, with water provided. He showed us how to buy the tickets but gave no commentary, which is exactly what the listing says.

Sophia's narration carried the whole day and brought the history to life. Hever and its gardens held me completely, and the scale of the Leeds estate was the surprise. Good value for what you get.

The pacing was the best part: enough time at both castles without ever feeling pushed along. Eva and Tom had the arrivals and departures timed so nothing was wasted. Eva's background on the sites made the difference.

Andy knew the medieval period inside out and was good to talk to all day. He took us to a thirteenth-century pub for lunch, which we would never have found. A day that felt properly guided rather than driven.

Where to go next
Reading the criticism is the fastest way to pick correctly: if the White Cliffs are the
reason you are going, none of these coaches is the right answer, and if the castle is the
reason, the ones that give it ninety minutes are not either. The
decision guide puts all nine side by
side, and Leeds Castle tours and tickets lists them with the
fares. Leeds Castle Tours keeps every one of them in one place.
