Leeds Castle Ticket Prices Explained: Explorer, Ultimate Explorer and the 12-Month Ticket

A Leeds Castle visitor map and admission tickets, with an entry wristband

Leeds Castle sells two tiers, six bands each, at two prices depending on where you buy — and every one of them is valid for twelve months rather than a day. This is all 24 figures in one table, and what the differences between them are actually worth.

What does a Leeds Castle ticket cost in 2026?

Two tiers. Six bands in each. Two prices for every one of them, depending on whether you buy online or at the gate. That is 24 figures, which is why almost nobody quotes them properly.

BandExplorer onlineExplorer gateUltimate onlineUltimate gate
Adult (16+)£34.50£38.50£45.50£49.50
Child (3–15)£24.50£28.00£33.00£36.00
Family 1 (1 adult + up to 3 children)£87.00£97.00£114.50£125.00
Family 2 (2 adults + up to 3 children)£115.00£128.50£153.50£166.50
Adult disabled + carer£30.00£35.50£41.00£46.00
Child disabled + carer£22.00£24.50£30.50£33.00

Parking is included in every one of them, at both tiers, online and at the gate.

Explorer or Ultimate Explorer?

The two tiers open exactly the same estate. Both cover the castle building and 500 acres of parkland and gardens. Both cover the maze and its underground grotto, the Bird of Prey Centre and its falconry displays, the Dog Collar Museum, two adventure playgrounds and the seasonal obstacle course.

The difference is two paid extras turned into inclusions, and nothing else.

What does the Ultimate Explorer actually add?

  • Six trips on Elsie the Castle Train or the Black Swan Ferry, both seasonal, both charged per trip on an Explorer ticket.
  • One round of adventure golf, also charged for separately on the lower tier.

That is £11 more for an adult and £8.50 more for a child. If a child in your party is going to want the train, the ferry and a round of golf, it pays for itself before lunch. If you have come for the castle and the gardens, it does not, and the Explorer is the right ticket.

There is a second, less obvious argument for it. The walk back to the car park at the end of a long day is the most repeated complaint in the traveller reviews. Six train or ferry trips solve it.

Is it cheaper to buy online?

On every single band. An adult ticket saves £4.00 at either tier. A child saves £3.50 on an Explorer and £3.00 on an Ultimate. A one-adult family saves £10.00 and a two-adult family £13.50.

Tickets cannot be bought over the phone, so the choice is the website or the gate. There is no timed entry at Leeds Castle either. That makes buying online purely a price decision: you commit to a start date for the twelve months, not to an arrival time.

How does the twelve-month rule work?

This is the fact that changes everything and the one almost nobody uses. Leeds Castle states that admission tickets are valid for multiple use for one year from the day you select when booking.

An adult Ultimate Explorer at £45.50 used twice is £22.75 a visit — less than a single adult Explorer at £34.50. Used three times it is £15.17. Nobody reminds you of this at the gate. Two reviewers who bought through a reseller in 2022 believed it did not apply to them, and the castle's terms say it does.

It also removes the weather from the decision. A wet afternoon in February is not a wasted fare. It is the first half of a year that also holds the gardens in May and the light trail in December. The seasonal picture is on the weather page.

Who does the family ticket actually save money for?

Family 1 covers one adult and up to three children; Family 2 covers two adults and up to three children. Both beat the same heads bought individually, and the saving grows with the number of children.

The cut-off is where it catches people. Child pricing runs from three to fifteen, and sixteen and over pays the adult rate. A family with teenagers of sixteen and fourteen is buying three adults and one child, not two and two. At that point compare two Family bands against four individual tickets rather than assuming.

Child, carer and disabled prices

A disabled ticket includes one free carer per disabled visitor. The disabled rate is itself lower: £30.00 online for an adult Explorer against £34.50, and £41.00 against £45.50 on the Ultimate. Additional carers are arranged with the castle directly rather than bought online.

Under-threes are not given a price band on the ticket page, so if you are travelling with a toddler, ask rather than assume. The access detail that goes with these prices — wheelchair loan, the mobility bus, the gradients — is on the accessibility page.

How much is the green travel discount worth?

Twenty per cent off admission, for arriving by train, bus or bike and showing a ticket valid for the date of your visit. On an adult Ultimate Explorer that is £9.10. On a Family 2 Ultimate it is £30.70.

It is the largest single discount Leeds Castle offers, it is not advertised loudly, and it stacks on top of the online price rather than replacing it. Both Southeastern stations and the Stagecoach 510 qualify. The routes are in Leeds Castle without a tour.

When does a guided day beat the ticket price?

When Leeds Castle is not the only thing you want to see. A coach day from Victoria at around $130 includes castle admission, a guide and the transport. It adds Canterbury Cathedral as an optional grade and a stop below the White Cliffs of Dover. All of that lands within a few pounds of an Ultimate Explorer plus a return train and two taxis.

What it costs you is ninety minutes at the castle instead of a whole day. So the fare comparison is close and the value comparison is not: one buys three landmarks, the other buys one done properly. A Leeds Castle ticket prices is the cheaper way to see Kent and never the cheaper way to see the castle.

What is still extra once you are inside?

  • Go Ape and the Segway tours — run on the estate by separate operators, not covered by any admission ticket or any guided day.
  • Adventure golf and the castle train or ferry — included on an Ultimate Explorer, charged per use on an Explorer.
  • Food and drink — the cafés and the restaurant, and nothing on any fare covers them.
  • Evening and special ticketed events — the fireworks, the Christmas light trail, the afternoon teas and the balls are all sold separately.

Refunds, closures and rescheduling

If you feel unwell or your plans change, the twelve-month validity does the work. Use the ticket on a different day, as long as it is within a year of the date you selected. The castle closes on Christmas Day. The building alone closes for the Fireworks Spectacular on 7 and 8 November 2026 and for the July concert.

Tour fares work differently. Every guided day here carries free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, for a full refund. That is more generous than most attraction tickets, and worth knowing before you commit a date.

The cheapest honest way in

Take the train, buy an Explorer ticket online and claim the green travel discount, and an adult pays £27.60 for admission. Parking is irrelevant and the ticket is good for a year. That is the floor. Everything above it buys a higher tier, a coach seat, or somebody else's driving, and the ticket prices page keeps the bands beside the tour fares.

Frequently asked questions

What are Leeds Castle ticket prices in 2026?
An adult Explorer ticket is £34.50 online or £38.50 at the gate, and a child aged 3 to 15 is £24.50 or £28.00. The Ultimate Explorer is £45.50 online or £49.50 on site for an adult, and £33.00 or £36.00 for a child. Parking is included in every one of them.
Is it cheaper to buy online?
Yes, on every band. The saving is £4.00 on an adult Explorer, £4.00 on an adult Ultimate Explorer, and £10.00 on a two-adult family ticket. Tickets cannot be bought over the phone, so it is the website or the gate.
What is the difference between the Explorer and Ultimate Explorer tickets?
Both open the castle, the grounds, the maze and grotto, the gardens, the playgrounds and the Bird of Prey Centre. The Ultimate Explorer adds six trips on Elsie the Castle Train or the seasonal Black Swan Ferry, plus one round of adventure golf. At £11 more for an adult, it pays for itself if you would have bought those separately.
Is the castle ticket really valid for twelve months?
It is. The castle states that admission tickets are valid for multiple use for one year from the day you select when booking. That makes a second visit free, which is why the gardens in May and the Christmas lights in December can be the same ticket. Evening and special ticketed events are the exception and are sold separately.
Is there a family ticket?
Two of them. Family 1 covers one adult and up to three children at £87.00 online for Explorer or £114.50 for Ultimate Explorer; Family 2 covers two adults and up to three children at £115.00 or £153.50. Both are cheaper than the same heads bought individually.
Do carers have to pay?
No. A disabled ticket includes one free carer per disabled visitor, and the disabled adult rate is itself lower — £30.00 online for Explorer against £34.50. Additional carers need to be arranged with the castle in advance.
Is there a discount for arriving without a car?
There is, and it is worth planning around: show a bus or train ticket valid for the date of your visit, or arrive by bike, and the castle takes 20% off admission. On an adult Ultimate Explorer that is nearly £10 back. The 510 bus and both Southeastern stations qualify.
Is a guided day cheaper than buying the ticket yourself?
Not on the ticket alone, but often on the whole day. An adult Ultimate Explorer at £45.50 plus a return train from Victoria and a taxi at each end lands close to a $130 coach fare that already includes entry, a guide, Canterbury Cathedral and the White Cliffs. The trade is time at the castle: ninety minutes on the coach against as long as you like on your own.
