What ninety minutes at Leeds Castle actually buys

Admission is in the fare, so you walk past the ticket office rather than into it. Ninety minutes covers the castle building at an unhurried pace, the courtyard, and the nearest stretch of garden on the way back to the coach.

What it does not cover is the far half of a 500-acre estate. The maze and its grotto, the Bird of Prey Centre and the playgrounds are all a walk away, and the reviews that mark this day down are almost always from people who expected to reach them. If the whole estate is what you want, the castle's own twelve-month ticket is the honest answer — and it is linked at the foot of this page.

The Canterbury Cathedral grade is the one decision left to make. Choose it and you get entry plus a guided tour inside; leave it and you get a free hour in the medieval streets instead, which several travellers prefer and which costs less.

Hour by hour, from the kiosk to the cliffs

  1. 8:30am — Victoria Coach Station. Arrive at the Evan Evans kiosk opposite Gate 1, inside the building.
  2. Mid-morning — into Kent. Headsets are handed out and the commentary runs on the drive down.
  3. Ninety minutes — Leeds Castle. Entry included; the building, the courtyard and the near gardens.
  4. Forty-five minutes — Canterbury Cathedral. Entry and a guided tour on the selected grade, or the town on foot.
  5. On the road — Dover Castle. The coach passes it on the coast road; there is no stop.
  6. Twenty minutes — the White Cliffs of Dover. Photographs from the shore rather than a clifftop walk.
  7. Evening — back near Victoria Station. Ten hours door to door.

Who this suits, and who should book something else

Book it if

You have one day for Kent and want three landmarks settled in a single fare, with entry to the castle already paid and somebody else driving. It is the most-reviewed Leeds Castle, Canterbury and Dover tour you can book, by a wide margin, and the reason is that it does exactly what it says it will.

Choose something else if

Leeds Castle itself is the reason you are coming. Ninety minutes will not reach the maze, the falconry ground or the playgrounds, and no amount of walking speed changes that. Take the castle's own Ultimate Explorer ticket instead and give it a whole day — it is cheaper, and it lasts twelve months.

Meeting the coach at the Evan Evans kiosk

The departure point is the operator's own kiosk, opposite Gate 1 and inside Victoria Coach Station rather than on the street outside. Arrive at 8:30am. Victoria Coach Station is about seven minutes' walk from Victoria Underground and rail station, and it is busy in the morning — one reviewer compares the boarding crush to an airport terminal, so leaving a margin is worth more than being on time.

The day finishes near Victoria Station rather than back at the coach station.

Frequently asked questions

Is entry to Leeds Castle included in this tour?
Yes. Admission to Leeds Castle is named in the fare, so there is nothing to buy at the gate. Entry to Canterbury Cathedral is a separate grade you select when booking.
How long do you get at Leeds Castle?
Ninety minutes. That covers the castle building and the nearest gardens at a comfortable pace, and does not reach the maze, the falconry ground or the playgrounds at the far end of the estate.
Do you stop at Dover Castle?
No. The coach passes Dover Castle on the coast road on the way to the White Cliffs and does not stop there. If Dover Castle matters to you, a private car can build the day around it instead.
Can you walk on the White Cliffs?
Not on this itinerary. The twenty-minute stop is at shore level with the cliffs in view, and several travellers have said they expected the clifftop path. Knowing that in advance is what makes the stop enjoyable.
Is the coach wheelchair accessible?
Yes, with notice. Email or phone at least seven days before you travel and an accessible vehicle is arranged for the day. Full access detail for the castle itself — wheelchair loan, the mobility bus and the gradients — is on our accessibility page.
What time does it get back to London?
The day runs about ten hours from a 8:30am arrival at Victoria Coach Station and finishes near Victoria Station. Allow for London traffic on the way in; guides reroute around it rather than cutting stops.
